MICKLEFIELD is set to have a new meeting place as the launch of a new community cafe draws near.
The community project, set to launch on Monday, October 10, is partially funded by Wycombe District Council and will give people in the area the opportunity to socialise over a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of home-made cake.
Cuppas will be held every Monday in St Peter's Church Hall, in Micklefield Road, from 10am to 12pm.
Jean Fraser, one of the volunteers who has helped to get the project up and running, believes the service will give those living on their own the chance to meet others.
She said: "Some people living on their own have few visitors and can go for days without seeing anyone. It can be very lonely. This will give them something to come out for and they can have a drink and talk to other people from Micklefield. There will also be newspapers to read."
The need for a new community meeting place was identified in April during a drop-in community consultation organised by the Micklefield Community Planning Group.
Colin Baker, the former Doctor Who and Bucks Free Press columnist will open the Cuppas project on October 10 and Cllr Liaquat Ali, High Wycombe's mayor, is due to attend.
