TODAY IS THE DEADLINE for feedback about the proposal of having a Christmas Community event on Jubilee Green: carol singing, mulled wine, mince pies and many things festive. Please contact Chris Hamilton with your views as soon as possible on 01494 462195.

OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH Association's next meeting is on Monday at St James the Great Church Hall, Plomer Hill. The guest speaker from Bucks Trading Standards will inform about the power the body has with regard to bogus salesmen and distraction burglaries.

This should be an interesting evening with opportunities to ask questions of the speaker and members of the Association will answer queries about joining the scheme.

This is an open meeting and everyone is warmly invited to attend. Please come along for the prompt start at 8pm.

WHAT A RELIEF to know that I was not the only one taken in by "The Don Le Code"! My thanks to those who have been brave enough to admit that they, too, fell for the story.

The AGM of the Common Preservation Society is to be held on Thursday at 8pm in the Memorial Hall. Come along to find out how those involved maintain the Common, which, contrary to popular belief, takes quite a bit of looking after.

DOWNLEY ARTISTS EXHIBITION was very well attended over the last weekend with a steady trickle of art lovers viewing the many paintings on display. It was great to see a completely new selection of work, proof that these talented people have been working hard since the last exhibition a year ago.

Also on show were the 60 entries submitted to design a cover for the 67th edition of the Downley Village News. All the work was of an exceptionally high standard, the judges had a difficult task selecting the two winners: Georgina Gianfelice and Sarah Perowne. Both young ladies win a £10 book token and I understand that all who entered are to receive a chocolate bar.

The beautiful painting donated by Ray Bradbury as the raffle prize was won by Valerie Szilardy, AN ADDED ATTRACTION was the sale of books which are surplus to the requirements of the recently opened Community Library. It was a surprise to see just how many books are now available to borrow along with a selection of jigsaw puzzles. Do pop along and take a look,
