PEOPLE of all ages congregated in Amersham Old Town for the arrival of the annual Charter Fair on Monday.
Children and pensioners alike enjoyed the atmosphere, rides and candy floss at the fair held in the High Street, Market Square and Broadway.
Rebecca Crow, from Chesham Bois, took her four-year-old son Henry to the fair for a night of fun. She said: "We have had a lovely time. I have been coming here for years and Henry has been three years on the trot."
The event has been held on September 19 and 20 since the 13th century when King John granted permission for the town to hold a market and fair. The tradition has been honoured by residents ever since.
Pensioners Iris and Dennis Pratt, of Whielden Street, were observing rather than trying out rides such as the Speed Sensation and the Sizzler.
Mrs Pratt said: "We used to come down here when it was held behid the church. It was a lot smaller then, I remember coming during the war."
She added: "It is a good thing for the town and we always like to come down and have a look."
Car park attendants Fred and Tony have been working at the fair for the last five years.
Fred said: "It is always a laugh working here. There has never been any trouble that I can think of."
Market Square and High Street were closed off to traffic to make way for the fair.
