CONGRATULATIONS to the board of Wycombe Wanderers for their decision to keep Nathan Tyson at the club. They have taken a gamble (Tyson could well leave for nothing in the summer) and concluded that promotion to League One is more important than £300,000 gained for selling Tyson. Only time will tell if this is the right decision, but on paper it shows the ambition that we want and expect.

Tyson has been key to the Blues' excellent start to the season. He has scored six times and looked like getting many more. He has started to form a lethal partnership with Tommy Mooney. With all due respect to other strikers at the club, I spent Wednesday afternoon panicking as to where the goals would come from if Tyson departed.

It has been an encouraging start to the season, certainly performance-wise. We may have had too many draws but in seven games we remain unbeaten. I find it difficult to see why so many supporters have been critical of the team this week. It seems as if a disappointing Bank Holiday weekend has led to an over-the-top reaction. We should have won at Shrewsbury, and that for me was two points dropped. The game should have been out-of-sight before the Shrews' late equaliser. As for Cheltenham, our visitors looked the best team I have seen this season and will surely be up there.

In a way the criticism, such as the half time boos against Cheltenham, shows how confident we are about our chances this season. Tonight's game against Northampton Town is a huge test. The Cobblers have started to find their feet after a disappointing start to the season. They were the bookies' favourites for the title, but we owe them one after they nicked the points at Adams Park last season.

Meanwhile, John Gorman, Steve Hayes, John Harrison, Garry Adamson and Ian Mather will face supporters on Tuesday evening for a Fans Forum. This has been organised by the Supporters and Founders Trusts and gives you the chance to quiz the people that matter. The forum starts at 7.30pm in the Vere Suite. Maybe the people that criticised the team after the Cheltenham game would like to share that criticism with Gorman and co face-to-face?
