THE COMMON is the centre for summer events this month. This weekend the Great Summer Fair will be there with free admission and fun for all the family, including loads of children's rides, dodgems and waltzers. Later in the month, on August 22 and 23, there will be a chill out for children under 16 years with rounders, cricket, football and parachute games. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.
FIVE BOOKS by local author Roald Dahl were strategically placed in the windows of selected shops in the village. To celebrate the opening of the Roald Dahl Museum the bookshop in Packhorse Road has been inviting children to identify the books and the shops.
The winners will be announced next Saturday with prizes being free entrance to the museum for the winners.
THERE'S NO meeting of the Flower Club this month. However, the Probus Club will hold its regular meeting at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday morning.
COMPUTER CLUB also continues over the summer. The group meets on Thursday evening for Make Life Easier with Macros for Microsoft Word. It is at 8pm and visitors are more than welcome, paying £2 per session or £12 for a year's subscription.

COLNE VALLEY PARK have been conducting a photo competition throughout the year to capture the seasons across the valley, the first green area west of London that includes Black Park, Langley Park, Denham Country Park and Thorney Park.
Now is the time to take in the summer season and you have until the end of next month to submit your photos as judging will take place in October with a digital camera and equipment vouchers as prizes.
There are three age categories under nine years, ten to 16 years and adults.
