A MUM who won a struggle to get her son into a grammar school of her choice, only to be told she would have to pay for transport to get him there, has now won that battle too.
Tracey Harvey, from Denham, wanted to send her son, Sonny, to Dr Challoner's Grammar School in Amersham.
The family live in the Dr Challoner's catchment area but they were told all the places had been taken by boys who lived closer.
She was eventually offered Burnham Grammar School, which was not a catchment area school, but which had spare spaces. The family turned it down.
Sonny was later offered a place at Chesham High but Mrs Harvey was told she would have to pay his bus fares, because it was not the school he had been offered first.
Pauline Wilkinson, a member of the appeals panel, said Burnham was not a catchment area school and had not been an option at first for the parents. It seemed fair to allow the appeal.
