NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH is advocating getting in touch with the Help the Aged Handy Van Scheme which makes vulnerable elderly folks' homes more secure and gives peace of mind. A range of safety and security products can be fitted, particularly for older people on lower incomes. Smoke alarms, door chains, mortice locks and bolts and window locks are on the list. According to income, work is either free or can be paid for over a certain income limit, in line with national elderly care financial rulings. The Handy Van Scheme can be contacted on 01255 473999. Kate Worthington is willing to give information to local residents on 01494 562158.
