SAFETY cameras, sadly, need to be part of the transport package that healthily releases children from dependence on adults' cars.

Cycling and walking, even if only to the school bus, are healthy, allowing social interaction, visual stimuli and exercise, as well as easing congestion.

Kim Moran (letters, July 9) is right to be concerned, but we must civilise our roads before suggesting vulnerable youngsters roam out on them.
