CHILTERN Railways has announced its compensation deal for passengers following the Tesco Tunnel collapse.

The two firms have struck out a deal for travellers, which Tesco will be fully supporting, to compensate for the inconvenience caused after the line was blocked on June 30.

A spokesman for the rail company said: "We appreciate the frustration that recent events are causing. Thank you for continuing to support us. We're doing all we can to give you back your railway as soon as possible."

People who hold a daily or seven day season ticket will be entitled to full compensation for travel on July 1.

For travel after that date, most people will be entitled to a 50 per cent refund if they usually travel to, or through, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Seer Green and Jordans, and Gerrards Cross.

From July 21, until further notice, this discount will be applied at ticket offices for affected journeys, so passengers won't need to make a separate claim.

Season ticket holders who travelled on July 1 are entitled to a free day's travel.

They will also be entitled to an extra half day travel for each weekday where there has been disruption.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary debate about the tunnel collapse, due to take place on Monday, was delayed due to the death of former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.

Dominic Grieve, MP for Beaconsfield, tried to rescheduled the debate before parliament went into recess on Thursday, but was unsuccessful.
