SCOUTS are gearing themselves up for their County Fair on the Common which takes place on August Bank Holiday Monday. You can get more details on this very successful annual event by calling Adrian Cooper on 01494 816505.
THE DAY BEFORE there's Songs of Praise organised by St Margaret's and Holy Trinity Churches in a marquee on the common. The service starts at 5pm and you are invited to take along a picnic and join in.
SECOND WORLD WAR exhibition that was part of the recent celebrations will be on display again at the Country Fair. It is well worth a look so make the effort to take this in as well as all the other events on the day CREAM TEAS are available on Sunday afternoons from 2.30pm at Penn Street Church Vicarage. May I suggest a walk through the beautiful Penn Woods culminating in tea and cakes at Penn Street WINCHMORE HILL Cricket Club are staging the final of The Chilterns League Knock Out at Penn House on Friday, July 29 from 6pm. All are welcome to attend the match between Taplow and Wraysbury, when a bar and barbecue will be available.
CRICKET and the first eleven had a resounding win over Amersham Hill winning by 8 wickets. Amersham Hill were all out for 179 with Brad Hyde taking 5 for 69. In reply Jack Dixon hit 90 n o as Penn cruised to a victory which takes them third in the League.
The second eleven couldn't dismiss Cookham Dean and had to settle for a draw. C Thompson hit 74 and T Bentley 58 as they amassed 269 for 8. Cookham reached 231, with Juliet Morris taking 3 for 43 for 8 in reply.
