THE Blue Cross adoption centre in Lewknor is looking for a devoted owner who could handle being given the runaround by a special hound.
The 11-month-old collie cross was originally a stray from Ireland called Danny. But he has since revealed himself to be a budding escape artist, and has made several breaks for freedom from his fortified kennel.
Inspired in a quest for human company, Hou-Danny, as staff are now calling him, has learned how to open kennel dog-flaps and has even scaled the six-foot perimeter walls.
His kennel mate, clearly impressed with such trickery and a nose for adventure, is happy to be led astray on the great escape. Staff at the centre have tied flaps shut and wedged them closed, but the kennel's creaky security has proved no match for the clever canine.
Julie Stone, the centre manager, said: "Danny is an incredible dog. He hates being left on his own and has found increasingly imaginative ways to break out and find friends. We have foiled his plans a few times, but he keeps working out new ways to get out of his kennel, and is now taking his friend with him.
"Danny is very endearing and sweet natured. He is also good with other dogs. What he really needs is a new home so he can be with people all the time, which is what he craves."
The Blue Cross provides support for pet and horse owners. It rehomes thousands of animals each year through its adoption centres and provides veterinary care for pets with owners who cannot afford private vets' fees.
Anyone interested should call 01844 355293, or visit the adoption centre on the London Road (A40), Lewknor, Oxon.
