A BEAUTIFUL memorial garden has been developed at Cadmore End C of E School.

The garden was first created in mem-ory of two pupils and their mother back in 1995 after they tragically died in a road accident.

When Year 6 pupil Jake Hall died last summer after suffering from cancer, his parents and friends decided to enhance the garden.

Headteacher Christine Sharples said: "Jake's parents, Lorraine and Richard, and his brother Josh, wanted to build something in his memory at the school."

The garden is a result of many people connected to the school working toget-her. Businesses donated different pieces, such as sand, cement and paving. Every schoolchild and member of staff have painted a pebble each to put around the edge of the garden.

Mrs Sharples added: "Jake was a quiet lad, a reader, he was not really into running around. Before this there was not really a quiet area at the school. We have a playground for the older children, but nothing like this.

"The garden is beautiful. Lots of the plants have been donated by parents and we have tried to put many things in quirky little places so the children will keep noticing new things."

The garden has a pond in the centre of the garden and a patio has been laid. An arbour seat gives children somewhere to sit and wind chimes are hung around the garden.

One feature of the garden is the area known as the friendship stop. If children are feeling lonely or left out, they may go to the pole and sit on the bench.

Mrs Sharples said: "In September we will be designating children to keep an eye on the stop.

"We are not superseding what was here before, we have just built on it. The garden has given us a lovely memory of Jake."
