A NEW stage musical is set to make its world premiere in the South of Bucks.

The Cygnature Theatre Trust brings Fast Food the Musical to Wycombe Swan next week which is written by home-grown talent Rob Alderton.

Fast Food takes a satirical yet poignant look at the early days of the fast food phenomenon. Set over nearly 30 years, this musical is full of memorable characters, fun, tragedy, and some of the most exciting songs to be heard on the stage in years from 1950's rock n' roll to powerful ballads and even a gavotte.

Rob, says: "I wanted to find a subject which touched a wide audience and write a piece which appealed to the public, performers and producers alike.

"The show has been crafted to work on the large professional stage, but also to be accessible to amateur companies and youth theatres in years to come. I have been frustrated how little new work makes it to the west end and national tours. Everything is so safe now reworking of old films and tributes to old bands. Where's the challenge? Fast Food has edge; it's a bit dangerous while still being mainstream and legitimate theatre."

The musical tells the story of the fortunes of GoodeBurger, and its two founders Johnnie Goode and Dan Crawford two men with equal, but differing, vision. Starting in post-war California, the company revolutionises the restaurant industry, as their radical idea, fast food, spreads across the globe, causing a deepening rift between the two main characters.

Rob, who has lived and worked in High Wycombe most of his life, has always been a fan of musical theatre and hopes Fast Food will be as successful as other modern day musicals.

He adds: "The aim of the show is to entertain, but also to inform and educate. It's not political or alarmist, but it might cause you to think a little."

Fast Food the Musical has a strong supporting cast including Grace, a car-hop with dreams of Hollywood and Goodeburger's mascot Goodie the Bear, and has been entirely written by Rob. It has a young cast of 16, an orchestra of nine, and a single set.

He says: "It's a show the whole family can truly enjoy. Not a day passes without the subject of fast food appearing in the media.

"Fast food is the subject of the moment, now more than ever."

Fast Food the Musical is at Wycombe Swan, July 20 to 23. Tickets: 01494 512000.
