RICHARD Eley, Heatherwood and Wexham NHS Trust's director of finance, has been elected president of the Thames Valley Society of Chartered Accouinfants.
He moved to the area in the late 1990s to become finance director of Thames Valley University. Prior to that he was with South Glamorgan Health Authority, in various financial management roles, and eventually became finance director of University Hospital of Wales.
He studied economics at Trinity College, Cambridge and trained as a chartered accountant with Touche Ross, now Deloitte, in Cardiff. Mr Eley currently lives in Caversham Heights, in Reading, with his wife Julie, and his son Hywel. Another new appointment for the society is Paul Tate who is deputy president.
One claim to fame is that he successfully campaigned for broadband in his home village of Hanwell, near Banbury and has since created the UK's, by area, largest community broadband network.
