COLNE VALLEY PARK at Denham celebrates its 40th anniversary with a Water and Wildlife Weekend next Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24. Plenty of events are planned with action-packed days of family fun, including canal boat trips and a farmers' market on the Saturday.

LAST YEAR 44 golfers from St James Church contested a golf afternoon at Denham Golf Club and they are hoping to top this today when the event, now in its 16th year, gets going at 2pm. Prize giving is held in the evening, following dinner at the club.
AT THEIR LAST MEETING before the summer break the Flower Club will be addressed by Bridget Warrington on Wednesday afternoon. "Crazy with Pots" is the subject of her demonstration. "Clay Pot Arrangements" form this month's competition. The club meets in the Memorial Centre at 2.15pm and new members are always welcome.
YOU CAN GUESS the topic that will be hotly discussed when the parish council meets on Monday evening at 8pm in the Memorial Centre. Tesco and the collapse of the tunnel over the railway is the subject everyone is talking about. As he was so confident in overturning council and local opposition to the Tesco scheme, perhaps John Prescott would like to visit the village to meet residents?
PENULTIMATE session of the Career Springboard group before the summer break has a panel of experts answering members' questions about using the Internet in their job search. Graham Gorton, Roy Houston and Neil Roberts will field the questions from 8pm on Monday at St Andrews Church in Packhorse Road. Committee member Ian Barber is in the chair.
PROBUS CLUB, which caters for retired men of all occupations who wish to socialise and enjoy listening to talks, meets regularly at the Memorial Centre. Their next speaker is George Rutter, regional secretary of The Friends of the National Railway Museum, and he will give members a talk about the museum on Wednesday at 10.30am.
A SPECIAL VISITOR from Hogwarts will be at the bookshop in Packhorse Road between 9am and midday tomorrow. It is a timely visit. JK RowlingS's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" goes on sale at midnight tonight and the book shop is staging a midnight party with wine, nibbles and surprises. It starts at 11.30pm.
