FOUND: ladies bracelet watch en route to Cookshall Wood by the Wives of Downley while out on their annual walk. Please call me for full details if you think it might be yours.
The walk is actually an excellent excuse to finish at the le de Spencers Arms for a bevy and natter. Other residents may well be amused that the party of 13 managed to get lost in the woods and had to retrace steps when a very dead-end was encountered, but a good time was had by all.
Plans were made for the next event which will be the annual barbecue. Call me for full details if you would like to join the group. It's a good way to make new friends.
DISCUSSIONS took place at Downley Day as to how long the event had been going. The closest guess so far is about 34 years.
Significant memories centre around Sara Copcutt was the maid with Marilyn Moor and Diane Watson in attendance. Emery's Dairy Cart took them round the village with Sally Biggs, who was crowned Queen. (My apologies if I've spelt any names incorrectly.) It would be great to start a Village Scrap Book recording all the events which take place in this busy place.
Do you have old photos, newspaper cuttings, programs of events held in the village? Perhaps someone out there would like to make a start?
Give me a call and we'll see what can be put together.
ANOTHER IDEA that is taking awhile to get off the ground is that of a Village Directory listing all the many diverse groups and clubs we have here.
Only one group responded to a previous plea here before Downley Day which was most disappointing.
If there is someone who would like to help collate this important information, please give me a call.
DOWNLEY VILLAGE WI meets at the Old School Community Centre on the first Tuesday of each month.
Their next meeting on August 2 and has Colin Oakes as guest speaker talking about the "Amersham Martyrs".
The evening starts at 7.45pm and newcomers will be made most welcome.
FINALLY, a plea for news over the coming weeks. Please get in contact with me.
Most planned activities have come and gone and this is a fallow time for something to write about.
Provide something interesting or be prepared for waffle over the next few weeks.
