HIGH Wycombe's Second World War veterans have spoken out about the lack of events to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of hostilities.
Two men, who fought in the war, say the High Wycombe branch of the Royal British Legion and Wycombe District Council have let them down.
Ken Hatherly, 84, and Bill Hoeing, 88, are both annoyed that the town seems to be letting the commemoration pass relatively unnoticed.
Mr Hatherly said: "High Wycombe is doing absolutely nothing. There should be parades and things going on, but there is nothing."
Mr Hatherly served in the Army before, throughout the war, and after it ended.
He thinks that there should be more recognition for veterans.
And he says that the Chinnor branch of the Royal British Legion are doing a "much better job". Chinnor will be hosting a parade and church service to remember veterans. However, a spokesman for the High Wycombe branch confirmed that it would hold an open day at its club and disco on Saturday, July 9. But the veterans think that they should have done more.
Mr Hatherly said: "The Chinnor events are wonderful considering they do not have their own building."
Wycombe District Council meanwhile said that it has organised a Second World War exhibition at the town's museum to remember wartime Wycombe and will be flying the Union flag on VJ Day on August 6. But the council has not organised any specific events in the town.
Mr Hoeing said: "I do not think much of the council. There have been things going on in towns all over the country. They knew it was coming up."
He added: "Wycombe is particularly well known from a military point of view. It is just sad that there are no major events in Wycombe."
