TRAMPOLINE fans are needed for a charity event to celebrate the life of teenage cancer victim Thomas Ball, who died two years ago.

Bounce for Thomas Ball is a 24-hour trampolining event that will raise money for the Thomas Ball Children's Cancer Fund.

Organisers are expecting children to do most of the bouncing, but some teenagers and adults are required to cover the night shift.

The charity was set up by Thomas who died in 2003 of a rare childhood cancer, aged 14.

Thomas' mum and chairman of the charity, Elaine Ball, of Sixty Acres Road, Prestwood, said: "We're hoping lots of people will be taking part and that we'll raise several thousand pounds.

"It's not something I'd usually do and Tom would find it very amusing.

"I will be bouncing into the small hours filling in the gaps."

The event will feature a 14ft trampoline that will be raffled at the end of the bounce.

Bouncers can contact the charity in advance or on the day if they would like to take part.

Mrs Ball said: "Over the last two years the charity has been raising funds to purchase a second holiday property on the coast for sick children to take much-needed breaks from hospital treatments.

"We have put in an offer on a property and hope to have some good news within the next few weeks."

Thomas was just eight years old when he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma which is a rare childhood cancer.

He successfully fought off the illness in 1999 after being treated at Wycombe Hospital and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but the cancer returned in 2002 and he died in June 2003.

The event takes place in Great Missenden Memorial Hall from 3pm on July 16.
