SINGER songwriter Alfie Cicale wants success so badly he bravely ventured to the new offices of the Bucks Free Press to show off his skills on the guitar to our music editor, Rachel Wakefield.
He had earlier sent her a demo CD which he states was recorded in the home studio of Mark Evans. A producer/engineer of some repute who has worked with Beverley Knight and Fame Academy's Alex Park.
I missed the live performance but got to listen to his tunes care of this specially produced demo.
His three track EP falls neatly into the melodic rock genre, just like several other hugely successful bands out there in the music biz.
Tracks by Oasis with a good twist of the Beatles sprang to mind when I was listening to Plastic Smile, From Me and Its Only Luv.
Alfie has a soothing and soulful voice which blends really well with the Gallagher brothers inspired guitar which always sounds like the Kinks.
But he is trying to be like a band that are past their sell by date, I lost interest in Oasis around the instantly forgettable Be Here Now period and Alfie's second track, From Me, could nestle itself nicely on that album with no problems.
Plastic Smile and Its Only Love are more relaxed, with more acoustic guitar layers than you can shake a stick at.
I liked what I heard, it was all good stuff, he just needs a different angle.
Alfie's graced our pages before and I read on our internet archives that he gave up his boring factory job to pursue a career using his skills as a musician, I hope it goes well for him, but he needs to liven things up, put a fresh twist on his tracks.
From what I heard he's got great potential but so have hundreds of others.
But he's taken the plunge and jumped feet first into full time music so now, its sink or swim time for the Wooburn Green songwriter.
He is currently looking for musicians to form a band.
