RESULTS FROM THE FETE feature the Best Neighbour award when an award is made to a resident for service to the community or for being helpful to all. This year the worthy recipient of the award was Barbara Clarke, especially for her work as Brown Owl for many years. She has reached the Guider's retirement age and is reluctantly giving up.
Fancy Dress and the Under 5 was won by Sarah Winfield, 5-8 years by Bailey Pepper, and the over 8 fancy dress by Sunny Murray-Howell-Thorne and Emily Bennett.
The Best float juniors was won by the pre-school, and the seniors by Naphill Neighbours. Best walking tableau was presented by the school. The best overall costume went to Nancy Hussey. Best stall winners were the WI.
At this stage the furthest balloon has been returned from Surrey, but more may yet come back. Over 1000 burgers and hot dogs were sold and 650 ices. Nearly all the beer went. No wonder, it was a hot day.
NAPHILL WI have just celebrated their 22nd birthday and look forward to their next meeting on Thursday, July 21 with Margaret Deakin's "In the steps of the Wesleys in Georgia". An American souvenir will appropriately be the competition theme. At their previous meeting they enjoyed local historian Pam Smith's amusing talk about her Naphill ancestors.
SUMMER SHOW, organised by the horticultural society, will be on Saturday, July 2 at the village hall, starting at 2pm. All the usual flower, fruit, vegetable, domestic and children's classes will be there. There's refreshments and a raffle, followed by the auction of produce at 4pm.
PUBLIC MEETING of the parish council is at the village hall on Monday, July 4 at 9pm. This public consultation is to discuss the future of the village. A Village Design Statement is being prepared to help manage change including ensuring that future housing development is harmonious with the village setting.
