FRIENDS of St Giles Parish Church present "Jazz on a Summer Evening" with the Gambit Jazzmen in Shakman's Field on School Lane. If the weather changes then it's into the Memorial Hall. This summer delight takes place on Saturday, July 2 from 7pm to 9.30pm. Gates open at 6.15pm so the picnics can be laid out. Tickets are £10 from John Davidge on 01494 873325 or at The Rope Shop.
JAZZ IN ST GILES on Sunday lunchtime welcomes trombone man Roy Williams with Clive Dunstall on piano and Terry Jenkins on drums. Terry played with the James Last orchestra. As always Pete Hughes will be on bass at the back. Merlin's barn is the place to be from 12.15pm when the music starts.
FORTY YEARS ON and Chalfont St Giles Playgroup are still going strong. They provide fun and introduce little ones to socialising before the move the school. It's seems amazing that they've been going for 40 years this summer. To celebrate the playgroup are holding a fun open day at the cricket pavilion on Sunday, July 3 from 11am to 3pm. There will be a host of stalls including face painting and cakes. There will be a barbecue with lots of tasty food along with a bouncy castle and games. Please go along and support them. Maybe you attended the playgroup all those years ago and now have your own little ones growing towards playgroup age. You are certain to meet friends, some you might not have seen for a long time, and you'll be part of a celebration.
STRAWBERRY FAIR takes place tomorrow in Shakman Field. It's organised by the Infant School and Nursery PTA. As usual there will be an action packed afternoon from 1pm to 5pm. The star event is a demonstration by the pupils of the Monzani School of Dancing at around 3pm. Stalls include go-Kakts, beat the goalie, bouncy castle and giant slide, as well as the old favourites - tombola, crafts and face painting.
To provide the energy there's the ever-popular hog roast, a barbecue and for the first time freshly prepared Indian food. To wash it down there will be a bar and teas. The fair is a major part of village life and always well supported - last year it raised over £6000 so they're aiming high in 2005.
