JAN EVANS, owner of the Montessori School at Bovingdon Green village hall, aided by seven mums associated with Burford School, helped raise over £2,000 by walking last weekend's fund raising event in bra and pants in aid of Breast Cancer. Supported by mums from her nursery, Jan, who lives on the Wycombe Road, finished the 26 miles course in seven hours. It was her first marathon and she herself raised in excess of £300 for the charity.ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY launches its local heritage initiative this weekend with an exhibition and display at Cookham. It is a sensitive site that indicates a channel from the Thames and two buildings, possibly Anglo-Saxon or Norman, and has to be professionally supervised. The parish centre, alongside Holy Trinity Church, is the meeting point tomorrow between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

PUBLIC MEETING is to take place on Thursday, July 14 to give the town a health check. It will offer residents a chance to appraise the strengths, weaknesses and the future demands and opportunities for the town and surrounding countryside.

The health check is part of a programme, championed by the South East England Development Agency, which is funding worthy projects in Bucks. Projects discussed and approved at the public gathering could then be put forward for grants. Volunteers for working parties will be sought at the public meeting, which is at 7.30pm in All Saints Church hall.

BISHAM SCHOOL HEADMASTER, Jim Cooke, could be in for a wet afternoon on Sunday when there is an opportunity to aim wet sponges at him at the school's Summer Splash. There are lots of stalls, including digging deep for treasure in a mass of gooey cold spaghetti, and also a silent auction. The fun starts at midday.

HOUSE TO HOUSE collection in Marlow for Christian Aid raised £6977, up by £250 on the 2004 total. Collectors from All Saints Church contributed £2,072.

MUSIC For a Sunday Afternoon continues at All Saints Church when the award-winning High Wycombe Music Centre Youth Choir, under conductor Tim Venvell, will entertain. The short concert is free and begins at 4pm.

IN CONTINUATION of the late Elizabeth Hayter's work on behalf of the Mental Health Foundation, a coffee morning is being held at the Guide Headquarters in Quarry Wood Road on Wednesday from 10am until midday. Home produce and plants will be on sale and admission is £1.50.

ANNUAL Praise in the Park service, which brings together children from local schools, is taking place today in Higginson Park. Theme this year is The Life of Jesus and the service takes place from 1pm to 2.30pm.

FOXES PIECE SCHOOL holds its Fun Day tomorrow at Newfield Road. The event, being run by Marlow Christian Fellowship, is on from 1pm to 4pm with a Fancy Dress competition, craft stalls, face painting and a barbecue among the afternoon's features. Proceeds will go to the school.

AGM of the 1st Danesfield Scouts group council is taking place next Friday evening at Danesfield School, starting at 7.30pm. All parents of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are encouraged to attend the meeting at which the move to a new hut, and the crisis caused by the lack of uniformed leaders, which could result in the closure of the thriving Beaver community, will come under discussion.

The executive committee would welcome adults who would like to try their hand at Scouting, together with former uniformed leaders. PIMMS & PLOUGHMANS will be served at the patronal festival at Little Marlow Church on Sunday, celebrating the birth of St John the Baptist. The event follows the 11am service and added attractions include a cake, plant and book stalls. Admittance is £7.50, children half price, with the proceeds being donated to Lighthouse, the children's holidays club being run in Marlow during the first week of August.
