IT was hats off to pupils in Great Missenden when they raised cash for Macmillan Cancer Care nurses.
Pupils at the Gateway School donned hats as part of National Hat Week, sponsored by the charity.
Children from the school were allowed to bring in a hat of their own choice in return for a small donation to the charity.
Many kids decided to create a hat of their own. The products of their labours were colourful and varied.
The pupils were also able to turn down their normal school lunches and indulge in a picnic.
But due to bad weather the picnic had to be staged indoors, yet the spirits of the pupils was not dampened, said teachers.
The school's deputy headteacher said: "The day turned out to be a complete success, with pupils raising more than £600, and money is still coming in."
