ANNUAL GARDENS OPEN DAY was held on Sunday afternoon and about £4,500 was raised for the Thames Hospicecare.
This event is always organised by the Cookham supporters of the hospice and this year there were eight gardens open over the four hours. As usual visitors enjoyed touring the gardens which were vastly different in design. "We are delighted the event was as popular as usual" Anthea Webb, a spokesperson told the MFP. "The weather was a bit unsettled but at least it kept fine. However, there was a cool breeze and visitors enjoyed the teas served in the village hall". Dozens of cakes had been made for the teas and there was a plant stall.
HOLY TRINITY CHURCH has a Healing Eucharist on Monday evening. Next Sunday, June 26 at 6.40pm compline will be sung by the men of the choir.
There was a thanksgiving service for the gift of music on Sunday evening with contributions of music from 26 young people and a retiring collection for the Children's Society.
Junior Praise hold another bring and buy sale on Sunday, June 26 in the Parish Centre in aid of charity.
Permission has been given for the Marlow Archaeological Society to do a geophysical search and minor excavations in one corner of the paddock on Saturday, June 25 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. It is hoped they will find evidence of some form of habitation or building. This will not affect parking, caravan weekends or parish council social events.
There will be fundraising activities as it is hoped to refurbish the kitchen at the parish centre which will cost about £20,000.
1ST COOKHAM SCOUTS has its annual summer fair on Cookham Moor tomorrow. This is a popular local event and as usual there will be many stalls and side shows to provide amusement for all ages and every member of the family.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY meets on Wednesday, June 29 when there will be a visit to Stubbings Nursery to include a tour of the nursery and a talk by Caroly Foster, followed by refreshments.
There is a strawberry tea at The Hockett, Cookham Dean on Tuesday from 2.30pm to 5pm. Tickets are £7.50 from Barbara Dent at 01628 476512.
RECENT CRIME includes a burglary when one of four men in a car used a baseball bat to break the window at Baby World in the High Street arcade. Nothing was stolen. A car was broken into in Sutton Road car park. Last Thursday a BMW was broken into off School Lane and a briefcase was stolen. On Friday a brick wall outside the Medical Centre was pushed over.
