RESIDENTS in the Thames Valley have been warned to be on the lookout for bogus workmen. The men, who claim to be from the Highways Agency, are offering to resurface front drives.
The agency, which operates motorways and trunk roads in England, wishes to make clear that these workers are not employees of the agency or its contractors.
Peter Cormode, regional manager of the Highways Agency, said: "Neither the Highways Agency nor its contractors undertake this form of private work.
He added: "We would never approach householders in this way."
Police are urging anyone approached by workmen in similar circumstances to report to their local trading standards office or contact the police as soon as possible."
