TELEVISION presenter John Craven has launched a new recycling appeal that will give the county one native tree for every tonne of aluminium cans and foil recycled.
And for every tonne recycled at Buckinghamshire County Council's household waste and recycling centres, a tree will also be grown in Africa until September 2006.
Alupro UK Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation which helps develop recycling collection initiatives, is working with charity Tree Aid on the project.
John Craven, patron of Tree Aid, said: "Trees breathe life into the world and we have fewer trees in the UK than any other country in Europe."
He added: "In rural Africa there are even more reasons why trees are important, as they improve soil quality as well as providing shelter, food and income for many very poor families."
Cllr Rodney Royston, cabinet member for strategic planning, said: "I am very pleased that we are able to support Alupro's recycling project that will see native trees planted in both Buckinghamshire and Burkina Faso."
