GROUND Force eat your heart out. Danesfield School has developed the "ultimate wildlife garden" without a Charlie Dimmock or Alan Titchmarsh in sight.
Headteacher Derry Lewis said pupils gasped with delight as they paraded through the garden, designed and created by PTA members, at the official opening on Tuesday, June 7.
At its centre is a feeding table to attract squirrels and birds. There is also a weather station to make any weatherman proud, allowing pupils to measure the rainfall, humidity and wind direction.
As well as enhancing the school's appearance Mr Derry hopes the wild flowers and hedgerows will encourage visiting wild animals and a thriving insect population for the pupils to study in their nature lessons.
The garden marks the completion of the school's millennium vision, which aimed to develop the school's exterior and complements the existing climbing frame and obstacle course as a place for quiet relaxation.
A bark path leads from the garden into the woods where pupils can enjoy story time sheltered beneath the forest canopy seated on a circle of natural log chairs.
The school would like to thank Buckinghamshire county councillor Robert Woolard for securing a £1,000 grant towards the project and the PTA for its fundraising and manpower to create the garden and nature trail.
