Adrian Lever has found a home away from home in the oldest free house in the country, the Royal Standard of England in Knotty Green.

How long have you been a regular?
I have been coming for just over a year, I really like it in here.

What do you usually drink?
A pint of Guinness. I have tried a few of the wines too, I've had a couple of bottles of great red wine.

What originally attracted you to the pub and what keeps you coming back?
I think first of all it was the age of the place, being from South Africa myself the age is amazing, we do not get anything this old, anywhere. As it is getting warmer the outside is really wonderful, we regularly come here for Sunday lunch.

What is the atmosphere like on a busy night?
It is pretty relaxed here. You get your core group of locals that come in then you get quite a lot of others just coming in for the meals. It is quite convivial.

Do you eat the food and what is it like?
The food is excellent, I have had quite a few of the options. Either me or my wife have tried everything, I think. The fish and chips are very special and the Sunday roasts are something else. There is roast everything here on a Sunday, the beef is just perfect.

What is the most memorable night you have spent in the pub?
All of my office came down for a pub quiz night not too long ago. We had about 20 odd people down from work, it was a great evening. We won the quiz actually,

What is the publican like?
Matthew is great, very friendly. He's been here for two months now and he really knows his stuff. You can tell from what he has done in just two months. All the locals are on his side and appreciate what he is trying to do.
