FUNERAL SERVICE for Sir Denis Wright was held at St Mary's Church on Thursday.

The Reverend Chris Denham, Vicar of Haddenham, welcomed Lady Wright and family with Sir Nigel Mobbs, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, representing the Queen.

Prayers were said by Canon Cavell-Northam. Readings and an appreciation were given by friends and family.

A specially convened choir sang.

Representatives of the many organisations to which Sir Denis had belonged including the Diplomatic Service, business and industry and Oxford University were joined by many local people who knew of Sir Denis's support for the village in many capacities, including the Village Society and the museum of which he was a founder member.

AT THE AGM of the Parish Council Angela Hart was unanimously re-elected chairman.

She had stressed to members that they should not necessarily be re-elected to offices they previously held.

David Truesdale was elected vice chairman and he also takes the chair of the planning and forward planning committees.

Margaret Aston asked to be relieved of the chair of the finance and general purposes committee in view of her position as chairman of Buckinghamshire County Council and David Goodenough takes her place, as well as being chair of the communications panel.

John Wheeler will represent the council on the safe walking and cycling group and as trustee of the Scout and Guide Association as well as chairing the allotments committee.

Enid Robinson continues to chair the environmental committee and Pam Lindars continues to chair the charitable foundations committee.

All members of the council have taken office, some on outside bodies.

A NEW SEAT has been installed on the grass at Fort End.

It has been given to the village by the Thame Witchert Rotary Club to mark the centennial year of the Rotary foundation.

Haddenham is the first of three villages to be given a seat and was chosen because several Rotarians live in the village.

The current President is Brian Foster of White Cross Road.

TOMORROW at 8pm in the Village Hall there will be a Ceilidh with the Woodpecker Band and Towersey Morris.

SUNDAY from 9am to midday a new venture starts in the village hall.

Called Cafeplus it is an initiative of St Mary's Church and is open to all (if you need transport ring 01844 299194, giving 24 hours notice) There will be Fairtrade tea and coffee, a choice of breakfast and the Sunday papers to read.

There will be children's church for three to 11 year olds at 10.30am and the AMAZE youth group will also meet.

Children's craft activities and a bible story and a quiet space to get away from it all will be offered.

It will replace the 10.30am service at St Mary's and is free although donations to help with running expenses will be gratefully received.

The caf will meet on the first Sunday of every month.

SUNDAY at 2pm meet at the library to join a country health walk of about two hours.

MONDAY at 2.15pm in the youth centre at Woodways the U3A meets for a talk by Dr Stephen Halliday on "Seven men who built Victorian London".
