LAST FRIDAY saw a crowded crematorium and a full chapel at Cryers Hill Methodist Church for the committal and thanksgiving services for the life of Michael (Mick) Wood. He had been a resident of New Road for over 20 years before moving to Downley.
Mick was known for sharpening and servicing shears and mowers for many in the village. He was also a property steward for the church. His wife Jill is the director and pianist of the singing goup. He will be very sadly missed.
Sunday services for this week are 10.30am with Preacher Reverend Moira Peters and 6pm with Preacher Ken Peatey. On Tuesday at 7.30pm the singing group meet. All are welcome.
OPEN GARDEN on Bank Holiday Monday saw a stagering £1447 raised for Ian Rennie Hospice at Home, £300 up on last years' event. Over 350 people turned up and appreciated the beautiful garden, cream teas and plant sale. A big thank you to all those who visited and those who helped support this worthy cause.
