SOME residents will have received a letter from Tracie Gilbert, Thames Valley Police, detailing her role to reduce anti-social behaviour.

The letter outlines the significant increase in the illegal and inappropriate use of motorbikes, mopeds, quad bikes and motorised scooters. Riders often contravene many laws including riding off-road without the landowners permission, riding without a helmet, tax or insurance. This behaviour is not acceptable and Wycombe District Council and the police will be working closely together to identify offenders and will use powers enabling vehicles to be seized. A number of seizures have already taken place this year, resulting in a recovery cost to the owner of £105 plus £12 for each day the bike is kept. For those who enjoy riding off road, there are facilities available within the law and Tracie suggests those under the age of 16 years should contact Chiltern Hills Young Riders for information about their programme which offers expert advice on safety, maintenance, repair and off road motorcross experiences. They are on www.chilternhills.info Those over 16 years please visit Skidz on www.skidz.org.uk Both organisations can be contacted on 01494 550008.

Tracie and Downley's newly appointed Community Support Officer, Gavin Jones, can be contacted on 0845 8505 505. Please quote their reference numbers when you call: Tracie C8119 and Gavin C9648. You will be put through if they are available or can leave a message and be contacted upon their return.

THE DOWNLEY DAY COMMITTEE reports: "Previously the Downley Day Queen and her attendants have been chosen at St James' Jollities. This year, however, the Jollities is after Downley Day so we would like to invite children between the ages of seven and 12 years to send in their names. The Queen and her attendants will be drawn randomly from those who apply." Forms are available now from Starlight Stores in the High Street, Downley News in Littleworth Road and Downley School. Forms must be submitted by Tuesday so don't delay.

Lucky applicants will be contacted after Wednesday and, obviously, they must be available on Downley Day, Saturday, June 18.

PLEASE don't forget that Downley Gardens Open Day is to be held on Sunday, June 12. Full details will follow next week. Volunteers to assist with this fund-raising event for the War Memorial Village Hall would be most welcome. Please contact Hazel Parnham on 01494 437422 with your offers.
