COUNTRY SHOW at Chalfont St Giles returns to Stone Meadow. This annual show is the highlight of village life. This year's show takes place on Saturday, September 3. Now is a good time to consider how you can participate. Here are three ideas to think about.

You can join the procession. This year the procession returns to its traditional route from Narcot Lane, down Deanway and into Stone Meadow.

If you are a charity, a club, a youth organisation or a commercial undertaking, the procession provides an excellent opportunity to raise your profile with the crowds of villagers who line the route.

If you can juggle, stilt-walk or play the bagpipes, it's a chance to join in the fun and show off your skills. You don't need to provide a float based on a lorry many participants will be walking, some will push wheelbarrows and some will bring their four-legged friends. For further details of the procession, contact Steve Pendray on 01494 875355.

You can volunteer to help. As always, the show's success will depend on a small army of volunteers who give up their time to help in various ways setting up, helping on a stall, selling raffle tickets, manning the gates, marshalling the procession etc. If you would like to be part of the team of helpers, please contact Steve Pendray on 01494 875355 or email steve@procustomer.co.uk You can enter data. Every year there are hundreds of entries for the competition classes. Someone is needed to collate the entry forms and enter details into a computer. This takes a few hours during the two or three weeks before the show. If you are able to take this on or would like further details of what is involved, please contact Bill Barrow on 01494 677563 or Jean Blake on 01494 874847.

CHALFONT CLASSIC CUISINE are offering cookery demonstrations for special occasions. There's a Fathers Day special on Friday, June 24 from 7pm to 10pm and you'll be preparing a three course meal. Many other demonstrations are available so ring them on 01494 872055 or 07816176509.

JAZZ at Merlin's Cave on Sunday lunchtime has a guitar man leading the music. Phil Lee will be with Clive Dunstall on piano, Gerry Boyce on drums and Pete Hughes on bass. The great sounds start at 12.15pm.
