ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the Alzheimers Society takes place on Monday at 11am in the Fitzwilliams Centre, followed by lunch for attendees. The guest speaker will be Marion Shoard who has personal experience of caring for and coping with Alzheimers disease, when her mother developed it, having already been suffering from osteoarthritus and partial loss of sight for many years. Marion also started to write a handbook for older people and their carers, covering all the needs of both. Everyone is welcome at the AGM but only members will be able to vote. SUMMER TEA PARTY time for the ladies of the Royal British Legion on Tuesday at the Legion's hall in Candlemas Lane. The party starts starts at 2pm.

WITH SO MANY charity events and collections in the Springtime people show that they can be generous. In recent weeks nearly £447 was collected for Action Aid; nearly £696 for Christian Aid, and £1,000 was donated to Cancer Research UK from a Jazz Concert.

Beaconsfield Friends of Cancer Research UK will soon hold their popular Open Garden at the Burmese Garden in Brownswood Road on Wednesday from 11am till 3pm. There will be bric-a-brac, cakes, plants, a raffle and tombola. Also a chance to swim at your own risk. Tickets are only £2 from 01494 670855.

OUTING TO STRATFIELD SAYE House is on Wednesday organised by the Historical Society. This was the home of the Duke of Wellington. It seems that when the Queen visited she complained about the central heating.

ANOTHER WEDNESDAY item of news - for the Leukaemia Care Society, who have another of their favourite stalls opposite W H Smith in the New Town from 9am till 5pm. Items on sale will suit any member of the family and there will also be plants, with everything at very popular prices.

MOTHERS UNION meet as usual on Thursday at the Reading Room, Wycombe End and have called their meeting Summer Scenes as it will be full of favourite seasonal poems and readings. The July meeting will be the annual Garden Party on July 14 and members should look out for details of the venue.

CLUB HISPANICO meets tonight in the Fitzwilliams Centre at 8pm for a debate about the organization ETA in Spain. The July meeting will be the last of the season and therefore a fiesta. Ring 01494 813477 for enquiries about this group.

NOW IT IS JUNE you can look forward to Beaconsfield's two big community events of the summer. Awareness Day is next Saturday, June 11 on the Council Green, and will include donkeys advertising the Donkey Derby Day two weeks on.

ALSO on June 11 is a Coffee Morning at the Free Methodist Church from 10am.
