WORK has started on a major extension to Cressex Enterprise Centre that will provide a further 36 small business units from January 2006.

The centre, in Lincoln Road, originally opened in 1999 and currently provides 53 affordable business units, suitable for office, studio or workshop use, available on two-week rolling licenses.

This allows companies to expand, contract or move out at with two weeks' notice.

Cllr Peter Cartwright, Wycombe District Council's cabinet member for transport & employment, said: "The council is working hard to revitalise this area and facilitate redevelopment.

"New businesses are a vital part of ensuring a buoyant economy. These small units, on easy-in, easy-out terms, provide the flexibility and short-term commitment that new start-ups need to help them seize a business opportunity. We are pleased to be a partner in this project."

The accommodation ranges from units designed for one or two people, right through to fully functioning workshops, all suitable for a variety of uses, and set around a courtyard.

The project is part of the council's Cressex Business Park revitalisation programme, which aims to re-develop areas of the business park that are now vacant or run down. The extension is a joint project between Basepoint Plc and Wycombe District Council.
