Letter to residents of Underwood Road, High Wycombe, regarding the death of Alan Irwing.

At this sad time for the family of Alan Irwing, whose life was tragically ended on Thursday 19 May, Wycombe District Council not only sends its condolences to his family, but is determined not to allow incidents like this make our residents feel unsafe.

Wycombe is a safe place to live and the council is determined to maintain the local downward trend in crime and not let the national trend towards the yob culture cause fear for our residents.

The district council is part of the Wycombe Community Safety Partnership and so works very closely with the police in such cases.

The council also works with Police Community Support Officers who have recently jointly been paid for by the police, the county council and the district council.

These officers are giving a high visibility and reassuring presence to our local communities.

The council's antisocial behaviour officer works with many agencies to tackle bad behaviour.

All types of antisocial behaviour are treated seriously as they affect the quality of life of our residents.

To this end the council will continue to work closely in partnership to ensure we find appropriate responses to help our residents feel safe.

The council is using this case to stress to the Government the importance of maintaining the current emphasis on tackling the problems that blight our society.

We will be calling for additional resources to help local communities tackle antisocial behaviour.

We all have a role to play to help reduce crime and disorder and would urge any resident with information about this incident, or indeed any other crime, to pass that information on to the police.

Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 or alternatively the police can be contacted on 08458 505 505 and ask for the CID at Wycombe.
