Home-made scones and fairy cakes, anyone? The kettle's on once again at Hughenden Church House.
HOME made cake and a nice cup of tea... Just the thing for a sunny Sunday afternoon treat. And it's been on offer now for 30 years at Hughenden Church House surely one of south Buckinghamshire's best-kept secrets.
The cakes are made and the tea brewed by a team of volunteers, who came back after their winter break to find a brand new kitchen, funded by a generous parishioner, at the historic Church House behind the parish church on the edge of Hughenden Park.
"What's more," says Kay Kennedy, "we have a dishwasher for the first time, which is wonderful. And we now have a disabled loo and wheelchair access." Kay has been one of the team of helpers since the church teas began.
This is surely the perfect spot for a Sunday afternoon tea. You can enjoy your cuppa and cake in the beamed hall of this quaint building which was once almhouses. If the sun shines, relax in the patio garden to take advantage of the stunning view over Hughenden Park and the hills beyond.
As well as all the favourite teatime cakes coffee and chocolate cake, carrot cake, fairy cakes and lots more the men and women in the kitchen will rustle up a cream tea, toasted teacake, hot buttered toast or ice cream. Last year the team raised more than £8,000 which helps with the upkeep of the building and the church. Teas are served from May 1 to October 23 on Sundays and Bank Holidays from 2.30pm to 5.30pm
