CHESHAM'S first People's Award winners were celebrated at an award ceremony sponsored by the Free Press.
The seven winners, including overall winner Bob Fish, of the Voluntary Action charity, assembled at Chesham Town Hall on Wednesday, May 18 to receive thanks from Chesham's mayor Cllr Mohammed Bhatti for their outstanding services to the community.
Chesham High School pupils Kate Swarbuck and Kim Holt received certificates for dedication to school sports. Voluntary Action helpers, Madeleine Fletcher and Barbara Payne won their awards for helping to recruit new members for the charity, settle new starters and place members in the correct roles.
Mrs Fletcher runs the Healing Drop-In Centre in Chesham while Mrs Payne helps with church coffee mornings. Linden Sims was awarded for her work as a Quaker elder, visiting sick people in their homes and helping charities out. Usman Bhally's work promoting inter faith community relations in Chesham between Muslims and non Muslims saw him awarded.
