I AM writing to add my voice of protest regarding the quite outrageous behaviour of the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership in keeping secret their fine collection on the A404, Marlow Hill, as was featured in your front page story recently.
I was recently penalised for driving at 37mph here.
I wonder whether the accident statistics reported actually relate to the uphill section of road.
Your reporter might well ask for a detailed breakdown for both carriageways, to check whether a danger really exists.
This might allay the public perception that this is just another penalty fine collection exercise aimed at penalising the generally law abiding motorist for a small infringement, whereas serious crime goes unpunished because of a lack of police patrols.
It seems to me that the fine and consequent hike in insurance premiums are completely disproportionate for minor speeding offences which have no real safety risk.
This is particularly the case here, as the 30mph speed limit on this section of dual carriageway seems quite arbitrary. Conditions are much the same further up the road where the limit is 40mph.
If such rigid and secretive enforcement continues unabated the likelihood is that many motorists will lose their licences under the totting up proceedure.
They could even be tempted to drive unlicenced and uninsured.
Is this what the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership really want? I do hope that there will be a reconsideration of policy in the light of public concern here.
I think the current policy is bringing the police into disrepute with the public.
