I REFER to the letters of May 13 regarding the speed cameras placed on Marlow Hill, High Wycombe.

I agree that drivers exceeding the speed imit should be caught and penalised, especially when caught at accident black spots.

However, my question is about the imposition of the speed limits in the first place.

On Marlow Hill, the speed limit is 30mph from the bottom and the pedestrian crossing and then about half way up the hill it changes to 40mph.

The only change in this dual laned highway is a seldom used entrance and exit from the Abbey School.

It appears to me that this entrance is only ever used by police speed trap cameras.

Why doesn't the speed limit of 40mph start just after the pedestrian crossing?

This would enable drivers to gain momentum for going up the hill and reduce the need for a speed camera there which will free up scarce police resources for other anti-crime and anti-accident activities.
