PARKING in the Cookhams continues to be a problem. On Sunday, when the sun brought out the motorists, the village was inundated with cars. School Lane had cars parked both sides. This causes traffic problems as it is a through road for those taking a short cut to avoid the High Street, which has parking on one side. The car park on Cookham Moor was soon filled and every weekend there is double parking near the Crown pub in the High Street at its junction with Berries Road.

ANNUAL QUIZ held to raise funds for the Parish Church took place on Saturday at Cookham Dean Church of England Primary School. There were teams of six people and the ticket price of £8 per person included supper. "It was a very good quiz night and we had lots of fun and managed to raise over £800 towards funds for our church" organiser Barbara Dent told the MFP. "This is always a very popular event" she said. On the night the winners were Sue Stacey's table.

SUMMER FETE at Cookham Rise Primary School takes place in the school grounds tomorrow when there will be lots of stalls and side shows. Local police are investigating a break-in at the school over the weekend.

NEXT FRIENDSHIP LUNCH at Cookham Dean Parish Church will be on Sunday at 12.45pm This is arranged for those who generally eat alone or who would like to make new friends.

THIS IS Christian Aid week and on Tuesday the money collected will be counted in the Parish Centre. On Sunday, May 29 at the 9.30am parish communion at Holy Trinity Church the collectors will gather at the altar for the offertory hymn so that the gifts from the parish can be blessed.

Sunday is Trinity Sunday and the patronal festival of the riverside parish church.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY meets in Cookham Dean village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. There will be a talk on the National Garden's Yellow Book Scheme by Jeremy Baylis, the Berkshire organiser. Visitors are welcome for £2 or you can join for the whole year for £5.

AGM of the Elizabeth House Day Centre will be held on Tuesday at 7.30pm. Extra activities have been held during the past few months and there are now over 200 members.

AN APPEAL has been allowed for Mr & Mrs J Shelley-Smith to build a first floor side and rear extension at 6 Westwood Green, Cookham Rise. A public inquiry is to be held at Windsor Guildhall on November 15 into a plan by Chauntry Buildings Ltd to build a pair of semi-detached two-bedroom houses on land at the rear of 1 to 4 Black Butt Cottages in Sutton Road.
