I SYMPATHISE with the views of your correspondent, Bob Street, concerning speeding offences on Marlow Hill, High Wycombe (Letters, April 5).
I, too, transgressed even though the police van was clearly visible, cunningly parked just before the 40mph sign. I had foolishly decided to concentrate on driving a true and safe course in the rush hour traffic rather than for mesmeric concentration on the instrument panel.
A "fair cop" at 36mph but my priorities must be safety before trivial legality.
I hope you find space for my letter as your journal is usually full of stories of serious crime burglary, vandalism, loutish behaviour, rape etc but let us not enter another debate on the priorities of those who place fundraising before effectiveness.
