AROUND the country many safety camera partnerships are using local media and the web to publicise where the speed enforcement checks are to be, for example www.sussexsafetycameras.gov.uk and www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties.
Here the mobile sites for Herts and Beds are listed, but Oxfordshire only links to fixed sites. A work colleague tells me that their local paper in Hull prints the locations each week in their pages.
The big question is why our local partnership is so secretive?
Regarding the comment from John Gray (BFP May 6), that the partnerships are only allowed to reclaim their costs is true, but it fails to mention that the surplus goes to the Treasury and who sets the targets? The Government, and I believe this year's target for the UK is three million tickets.
It's another stealth tax.
