MAY PROCESSION from Banks Park to Church End was led by flower girls Claire Parsons and Susanna Smith (both ten), followed by Michael Whitney driving his tractor and trailer in which sat the May Queen, Emily Hadder (nine) and her attendant, Emma Wright (ten) and the May King, Joss Dawkins (eight). The royal pair were crowned by Kathy Parkinson of Haddenham Morris. Also in the procession with garlands of garden flowers were many village children and music was provided by Hadda's Band and musicians from Poynton Jemmers and Towersey Morris who came at the invitation of Haddenham Morris and the ladies' Hoofers. At the end of the regal ceremony Sally McCloy invited the children she had been coaching for weeks to dance around the maypole, weaving intricate patterns with the colourful ribbons. After older children had their chance it was time for the Morris teams to entertain together with Haddenham Hoofers, the ladies energetic dancers.
A new feature this year was the presence of the Hoofettes, five girls and a boy, the children of the Hoofers, dancing for the first time in public - to great applause. Michael Whitney was MC for the day and he extended thanks to all those who had helped to make the occasion so enjoyable - Sue Geenes for the flower arrangements; Jackie Penn for the flowers; Jill Dyer and Christine Thorogood for playing the melodeon at practices; David and Angela Truesdale for refreshments and electricity; St Mary's Church for the PA system and Isabel Mallein, Julie Pinder and Sally McCloy for the dancing. A collection was taken for Children with Cancer. It was a memorable day.
MICHAEL Whitney reports that the spring film show of Old Haddenham raised £130 for the museum. Joan Dharamshi was delighted with the result of the Lifeboat collection - £1,933 - from a landlocked village. She appreciates the kindness of donors.
