MEMBERS of the Gardening Association are away this weekend in Hereford and Worcestershire where they will visit five local gardens. This is just one of a number of trips away either for a weekend or a single day that members can enjoy. A full list and details of membership can be obtained from Graham Daw on 01494 725027.
The association's next planned trip is a day outing to Surrey on Wednesday, June 8. Members will get a chance to have a look around gardens at Loseley Hall, Munstead Wood and Vale End. Not only are these outings a good chance to see how others keep their gardens but also an opportunity to pick up ideas. The society is active throughout the year and welcomes new members.
CHRISTADELPHIANS continue to meet regularly in the Barn Hall in the Community Centre on a Sunday evening at 6pm and they cover a variety of different topics, often related to the time of the year or recent events. The group is open to new members. This Sunday's topic is "Coming to God on his terms".
CHILTERN VOLUNTEER Bureau has a number of vacancies with a variety of different organisations. The work is as varied as the organisations themselves and can involve working with someone on a one-to-one basis or with a group.
Volunteering also takes place at various times of the day so even if you do not have daytime hours available, there may be something for you. You can find out the current vacancies by calling the centre on 01494 793470 or have a look on the Internet at do-it.org.uk When I had a quick surf the result revealed 152 opportunities within three miles of Amersham. It just goes to show the need for volunteers, and their value.
EX-LIBRARY stock is currently on sale. While these books have been read by several people most are still in good condition and well worth picking up at a bargain price. You will find the sale books displayed on special racks near the entrance of the library in Chiltern Avenue.
PHILATELIC Society holds its AGM on Thursday evening in the Barn Hall at 8pm. In return our Philatelic Society visits other societies and is affiliated to both the Association of British Philatelic Societies and to the Middlesex Philatelic Society. New members are always welcome. Contact the honorary secretary for more information on 01494 773189.
