THIS weekend's Beaconsfield Flower Show has been cancelled at short notice by the organisers, the town's football club Beaconsfield SYCOB Football Club.
The weekend-long event, due to start on Saturday, has been scrapped after Holloways Park needed "necessary ground maintenance" work.
The flower show will now not take place until this time next year.
Andy Fitzsimons, Beaconsfield SYCOB Football Club's press and public relations manager, and director of its holding company, explained: "We realise that this news will come as a great disappointment to many people who had already pencilled the event in their diary.
"However, as a point of interest, we are pleased to be able to confirm that the Beaconsfield Flower Show will take place next year."
Outgoing mayor of Beaconsfield Cllr Alan Walters was a big supporter of the flower show.
He said: "Obviously I am disappointed but I can understand the reasons behind the cancellation.
"They probably started off too late this year. I hope that the way they are starting off again on a positive note will mean the event will go ahead."
He added: "It is a great idea and I hope it is a success next year."
Application forms for next year's show will be sent out to prospective exhibitors in late September, 2005.
