I WENT to see the new Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie on Saturday night at the Wycombe Filmworks.
Oh dear........big mistake!
The story line, characters and above all, charm of the original TV series were simply bulldozed into oblivion by a techno-special-effects-egothon, courtesy of Touchstone Productions. The casting was mistaken, leaving the characters inane, insular and one-dimensional.
The story line was at best confused and the albeit true-to-the-original linking dialogue (originally provided by Peter Jones, but now by Stephen Fry) was simply incongruous and totally out of place in this new environment. Compared to the classic vintage wine of the original with its subtle flavours, this was a strawberry Mcmilkshake of singular vulgarity .........and far too much sugar.
