TELEVISION presenter Lorraine Kelly has raised about £11,000 for Maplewood School's hydrotherapy pool appeal after completing the London Marathon.
The star is the patron of Maplewood Parents Staff and Friends Association (PSFA) which aims to raise money to build a hydrotherapy pool for the special needs school in Faulkner Way, Downley. A pool would give the children, who have severe learning and physical disabilities, the freedom to move their limbs freely and improve their co-ordination.
Lorraine Kelly has seen the children use the pool at Wycombe Sports Centre.
She said: "When you see their little faces light up it's amazing to see that difference. The more they go, the more their co-ordination improves but more importantly they have fun. If they had the pool on site they'd be able to use it all the time and there's nothing to say other people in the community can't use it as well."
The charity has raised more than £200,000 but needs a total of £500,000 to build the pool. It is hoped that the pool will also be used by the wider community and that building can start in 2007.
