I want to be positive. Not everything Labour has done is wrong. But when we think of the promises they made, the money they've spent, the taxes they've raised, we know that Britain should be doing better than now.

I want a Government that will match Labour's spending on health but scrap the targets and bureaucracy that stop nurses and doctors from doing their job.

Let's keep our grammar schools, but also establish first-rate technical and vocational courses for young people. And let's trust teachers more, not deluge them in red-tape.

Police officers should spend more time on the streets, and less time filling in forms. We can strengthen crime prevention, by investing in secure rehab places for young drug addicts.

Pensioners deserve respect and a fair deal, not means tests. So I would re-link the state pension to average earnings and give over-65s a 50 per cent cut in council tax.

Our public services need British business to create wealth in the first place. Rover's fate reminds us that global competition is fierce. Lower taxes and smaller government will help British enterprise to prosper and lead to a better economic future for us all."
