THE need for closed-circuit TV in Beaconsfield has been highlighted by police after a woman was subjected to a terrifying indecent assault.
The incident happened between 11.30pm and 11.45pm last Wednesday in Burkes Road, Beaconsfield, when the 22-year-old woman was walking home from a night out in the town centre.
A man approached from behind, grabbed her by the shoulders and hair and put his hand over her mouth. He dragged her into a garden and indecently assaulted her. He ran off toward Burkes Crescent.
Police spokesman Marc Sanderson said: "This young lady has been left extremely distressed and shaken by what was a very nasty attack indeed. Fortunately, attacks like this are very rare."
Police are also anxious to trace a dark blue, medium-sized saloon vehicle spotted in the town centre.
The attacker was described as white, aged about 30, and about 5ft 11in tall. He was slimly-built, had short dark hair and was wearing a cream-coloured jumper and black jeans.
Police Sergeant Gerry Lister said: "This is typical of the kind of offence that could be deterred or would be affected by CCTV."
The outcome of a bid for cameras should be known this month.
