CONCERNED parents Chris and Alison Avery say their teenage daughter has been forced to sleep in the kitchen because their flat is so damp.

Mr and Mrs Avery, of West Wycombe Road, High Wycombe, rent the one-bedroom bedsit from the Wycombe Friendship Housing Association, for £38 per week.

Mrs Avery, 34, said the damp set in in the bathroom and spread rapidly through the rest of the flat, adding: "Black mould was growing and then we had double glazing and all of a sudden the black mould started growing in the kitchen.

"Now the mould has come into the living room.

"We also noticed there was a leak in the airing cupboard and they had to come out and replace the whole tank.

"In the meantime, our 14-year-old daughter is sleeping in the kitchen on a bed having to be kept up against a damp wall, so her bed is getting damp as well.

"Having three of us in a bedsit is hard enough, we are in the process of a transfer, but we have no idea how long that will take."

Mr Avery, 36, added: "It's terrible when it gets to the stage when your daughter is sleeping on the kitchen floor. When we complained we were told that what was causing the damp was because we had a clothes horse in the kitchen."

Christine Hunt, of the Wycombe Friendship Housing Association, said: "The main problem with their property is it suffers from condensation.

"Over the weekend a leak occurred in the cylinder tank. A contractor has been and repaired the tank. We've done as much as we can from our end. We are sorry for any inconvenience that's been caused and we will do our best to effect a transfer as soon as possible."
